A jewel in a city structured to
hold both important people and
events. Abano and the “Villa
Bassi Riding Course” are
this: a compound of elements
very appreciated by the Italian
Equestrian Sports Federation
that now and then lightly
pressures, gratifying the Abano
horse-riding world, for these
horse shows to take place. |

Abano Terme’s riding course
is one of the very few in Italy
to be public property. But
it’s managing is entrusted,
according to an agreement, to
the passion of the Abano Terme
Equestrian Sports Association (ASEAT).
The facility is located on a 45
thousand cubic metre area.
Here are set the 120x65 metre
contest riding-course and a
second 70x50 metre training
course. This second area is also
endowed with two galleries
suitable for the Western
contests.
Naturally there is also an area
where the horses stalls are
prepared in which warm-ups can
take place even away from the
two actual courses. Besides
there’s a wooden club house that
holds a bar, offices and an
equipment storehouse where
there’s the indoor tensile
structure.
Once, during the contests, it
used to hold beautiful art
exhibitions featuring horses,
but it is also where parties are
held now and then.

The whole riding course
is named after the
adjoining Villa Bassi
Rathgeb from which it
cannot be separated. The
ancient patrician
dwelling, that’s being
restored in order to
become in a few years
time the centre both of
art exhibitions and of
the municipal
administration
representatives, is
named after the
benefactor from Bergamo,
Roberto Bassi Rathgeb,
who gave his precious
art treasures to the
city. Nowadays some of
those treasures, the
paintings, are displayed
at the Montirone
municipal picture
gallery. |

The main riding course’s
grounds are very well
kept. They’re not
over-used in order to
avoid possible damage,
therefore failing to
provide one of the main
elements for the
contest’s technical
outcome.
Also the Abano Terme
Townhall aims at this by
not exploiting the land
for other events, though
it would have the right
to.
