Vincenzo Chimirri learned to ride horses at the age of 5 in Calabria where he trotted and galloped on the family farm and riding school. He faced the first jumps at 7 and at 11 his first competition. His passion for horses came through his father. This passion and a natural talent have made of him one of the best current Italian riders.

His biography tells that at 12 in Siena, at a team show, competing with his sister and cousin, he won second place at the Regions Cup. His big moment came when he was 16 and the general Cini called him to participate in an International Junior Show. Two famous names of the Italian equestrian art helped develop the already clear skills of the young Vincenzo - Raimondo D’Inzeo and Mauro Checcoli.

Chimirri at 18 moved to Rome and entered the Police academy. He soon turned to riding professionally at the Federal Horse Centre with the sport team Fiamme Oro (Golden Flames).

He changed teams two more times - at Remo Speroni’s stables first, and now at Elio Marioni’s. The constant commitment he showed and his never ending work resulted in numerous successes in the equestrian world. Some of his recent victories include the win at the San Patrignano Grand Prix in 2004, the silver medal at the 2005 Italian Championship, the excellent position at the Athens Olympic Games - 7th in the team show and 19th in the individual final and not to forget a flagship like the first Italian victory in the Nation Cups, at the German edition in 2003.

The challenges await him this hot summer. Ahead are shows in Gradisca (UD), Abano Terme (PD), Vicenza and the World Cup stopover in Verona.

Chimirri hasn’t yet chosen all the horses he will compete with at the Abano CSI***, but one name is certain - Ascolcantino! Vincenzo looks forward to the Abano event, beloved to the champion, who feels “At home thanks to the flawless organization and the hospitality.” The event in Abano appeals to the big names in horseback riding thanks to the friendly atmosphere one feels here. The horse grounds at Villa Bassi are excellent and the only improvement possibly needed is modernizing the obstacles!”
