Nowadays horse-riding includes
various features involving pure
sports, simple play and also
therapy. The latter not only
offers the chance for people
with physical problems to
exercise (a classic example is
the performance of Liz Hartel, a
poliomyelitic girl, at the
Helsinki Olympics) but also
contributes to the treatment of
many physical and psychological
pathologies thanks to
therapeutic horse-riding,
for instance, which is believed
to be a real exercise for
patients with heart, circulatory
and breathing problems. |

In fact horse-riding stimulates
different sides of the person’s physique
and psychology by working on various
similar elements basically linked to
exercise that involves the muscles, the
senses and the cardiopulmonary system;
to a 3D movement gait that stimulates
the motor coordination and the
elasticity of the intervertebral disks
creating at the same time a feeling of
movement even for the paraplegic people;
to the balance; to the neuro-muscular
stimulation and to the man-animal bond.

Another goal at the Abano Terme
Horse Centre is to develop the
practice of the hippotherapy
medical science,
which is a complex of techniques
that help you to overcome
sensorial, cognitive and
behavioural injuries with the
help of the recreational
relaxation that occurs while
riding. The therapy is performed
with the help of a qualified,
authorized personal therapist.
This project represents an
ambitious social commitment,
that acknowledges the importance
and validity of horse riding as
a rehabilitative technique and
augments the scarce presence of
qualified centres in the
territory.
